# Reflection In Math

Reflections math basically arise from the concept of transformations. Transformations in maths includes altering of geometrical forms by means of different methods like: reflection, translation, turning and resizing. Reflection geometry for any figure is found with respect to some line. In reflection process shape of figure does not change and so its dimensions remain same. Axes that we generally consider are x – axis (y = 0), y – axis (y = 0), y = x (line whose slope is 1 i.e. it is inclined at an angle 450) or can be any random line of form Y = Mx + C. So, let us learn reflection in math.

When we take reflection of some figure about x = 0, its coordinates with respect to x- axis will maintain a constant distance and y- coordinates of all pairs of coordinates will be multiplied by a factor -1. When we take reflection of some figure about y = 0, its coordinates with respect to y- axis will maintain a constant distance and x - coordinates of all pair of coordinates will be multiplied by a factor -1.

These all standards are set on basis of consideration that figure whose reflection has to be taken is located in I QUADRANT.
When we take reflection of some figure about the origin, its coordinates with respect to negative x and y- axes will maintain constant distances and x- y coordinate pairs of all coordinates will be multiplied by a factor -1 each.
When we take reflection of some figure about the line y = x, its coordinates with respect to x and y axes will maintain constant distances and x- coordinates and y- coordinates of all pairs of coordinates will be multiplied by factor -1.
