Composite Numbers

We come across different numbers in our day to day life. Life cannot roll without numbers. Numbers are classified as natural numbers, whole numbers, even numbers, odd numbers, prime numbers, composite numbers, rational numbers, irrational numbers, real numbers, complex numbers and many more classifications ahead. Let us talk about Composite Numbers here.

By the term composite number, we mean numbers which are not prime numbers. Prime numbers are the numbers which have only two factors and the composite numbers are the numbers which have more than two factors. To learn composite numbers definition of numbers, we say that the numbers which are not prime numbers are composite numbers. Let us take a look at number 2, and observe that it has only two factors 1 and number (2) itself. So we say that it is a prime number. Similarly a number 3 has two factors 1 and 3. So we say that the numbers 2, 3, 5, 7,  . . . . are all prime numbers. On the other hand we say that number 4 has number 1, 2 and 4 as factors. So we say that it is a Composite number. In the same way 4, 6, 8, 9 ……. Also have more than 2 factors, so they are all composite numbers. All even numbers except number 2, which is the smallest even number are composite numbers as all of them has the number 2 as their factors except 1 and the number itself.

Further we add to it saying that number 1 is neither prime nor composite. We know that prime numbers have at least 2 factors and composite numbers have more than two factors. So 1 does not satisfies any of the conditions.
