2 digit subtractions is the operation which is taught in the primary classes. In this operation, we subtract two digit consisting two digits each and we start subtraction from the left most column that is one's column and then moves toward right to ten's digit column. If needed then we also use borrowing in the operation.
The steps to do 2 digit subtractions (numbers which have numbers to tenth place) are:
1. First step in 2 digit subtraction is that, you need to analyze that which of two numbers is larger than the other. After doing that, you need to place both the numbers one over the other such that their one’s place digit is over the one’s place digit of other, ten’s place digit is over the ten’s place digit of the other number.
For example: let us take two 2 digit numbers: 25 and 82

2. Now you need to start subtraction from one’s place digit column of both the numbers. Therefore, we have to subtract 2 – 5 =? This means we don’t know how to do that if the upper number is smaller than the lower number. So in such a case we always borrow one from the left neighbor digit and decrement one from it. Now, after borrowing one from ten’s place number 2 has become 12 and 8 has become 7.
So, now we have to subtract 12 – 5 = 7.

3. Now we have to subtract the ten’s place digits of both the numbers, which are 7 and 2, so 7 – 2 = 5.

Thus, we can say that whenever upper digit is smaller than the lower one then we can solve it by taking borrow from the next left neighbor and decrease 1 from it.
